Boo Bash, 10-29-11 by Calypso Strawn
Growing up, what holidays did you look forward to the most? Halloween and Christmas, of course! These days it's hard to know which doors to knock on for fun, especially if you haunt the toy aisle. The Daytona Beach
Ocean Walk has got you covered with the Boo Bash this
Saturday, October 29th, starting at 4:00 p.m. So when the eagle lands, you can pony up with the kids, or stroll arm-in-arm with your sweetheart to indulge in spooky treats. They offer kids the usual suspects: candy for trick or treating, a costume contest, and classic monster tunes. Best of all, a scavenger hunt!
For the ladies and gents, or rather, witches and warlocks, the best bars at Daytona Beach
Ocean Walk challenge you to try four of their special brews...and rate them on it! You can watch sports and catch an ocean view at the
Mai Tai Bar. I sure enjoyed my first Shock Top and the friendly service I received there last month. When you get hungry, you can wolf down some shrimp gumbo and pick up another drink at
Bubba Gump's, or tear into a steak at
Sloppy Joe's. For some eye-candy along with your tasty treat, and fourth tongue-loosener, be sure to float into
The Wing House. If you're not drifting like an autumn leaf after four of these babies, you're not drinking them.
And then there's the movie theater. True buffs will have to check out
The Thing, a re-make of the classic Carpenter film, a sci-fi horror show on par with
Cameron's "Aliens." We'll surely miss Kurt Russell's classic interpretation of
R.J. MacReady, and a certain cheating wench chess computer, but I'm willing to bet the new cast and updated special effects can keep me jumping. Hey, it's Halloween! Got to have a ghost story. People who kept up on the Paranormal Activity franchise will want to scope the third installment:
Paranormal Activity 3. After all, who made a deal with the devil in the first place? Say it ain't so, Grandma. Only those who see it will know for sure.
The best thing about Ocean Walk, besides the bright colors and those soft ocean breezes, is the parking. There's no need for quarters, or side-street spot hunting at the garage. Roll in there, walk the bridge, and pick up your Cocktail Challenge lanyard at the kiosk. Then you're ready for a night's revelry. There's sure to be plenty good hullaballoo at the costume contest for adults between 10-midnight at the Mai Tai Bar. Show up in your best cape and creepiest "I never drink wine," attire for this Daytona Beach Halloween event extraordinaire and you could win $1,000. Now that would make for a killer start to this Halloween weekend, dontcha' think?
